In the Southern Carpathians, the Țarcu-Retezat-Domogled area, Rewilding Romania is collaborating with national parks, institutions, municipalities, and local people to create the favourable context for nature and humans to thrive together.
Our actions are aimed at restoring and protecting nature, and creating new livelihood opportunities for communities from nature-friendly tourism, selling products, and guiding visitors.
Where the Danube river meets the Black Sea, we can find the largest wetland area in Europe. The 580,000 hectare delta is home to massive amounts of waterbirds of all kinds, most notably two species of pelicans, herons, storks, cormorants and terns.
Our rewilding actions aim to rehabilitate former polders and restore connectivity with the Danube river, increase biodiversity, and work with local communities to develop touristic experiences that do not increase pressure on the habitat.
