As part of the LIFE with Bison project, Rewilding Romania organized a volunteer action in July 2025 involving 22 young scouts from Belgium, members of The Noucelles Scout Unit – 51 RP. Over the course of one week, the volunteers participated in a range of activities within the European bison reintroduction area in the Țarcu Mountains, contributing to both projects with practical benefits for local communities and to environmental conservation efforts.
The volunteers supported families in the communities of Armeniș, Cornereva, Teregova, Feneș, and Sub Margine with traditional agricultural activities, including raspberry harvesting and haymaking. They also built wooden benches and tables for use during community and educational activities organized by Rewilding Romania. Another important component of the program involved environmental cleanup activities and assistance with marking three tourist trails within the project area, helping improve access to nature-based tourism experiences.
On 17 July 2025, the volunteers participated in a clean-up action carried out in the municipalities of Armeniș, Cornereva, and Teregova, organized with the support of local authorities. The activity contributed to improving the condition of natural areas and promoting environmental responsibility among both participants and local communities.
Through initiatives such as these, Rewilding Romania aims to encourage young people’s active involvement in nature conservation and community development. Volunteer activities provide participants with opportunities to better understand the relationship between people and nature, contribute directly to conservation measures, and gain practical experience in environmental protection. At the same time, these actions support the objectives of the LIFE with Bison project by strengthening connections between local communities, volunteers, and rewilding initiatives in the region.
The July 2025 action marked the first activity organized under Rewilding Romania’s volunteer program and the first involvement of a large international volunteer group in activities carried out within the European bison reintroduction area in the Țarcu Mountains.
